I love your post, and thank you for the mention in the related articles! I pray to God every day to help me keep my mouth closed when it need not be opened. Opening one’s mouth in anger rarely turns out well. I’ve had arguments with people where we’ve kissed and made up and forgiven, but the words that were said can be made to vanish. They linger in the back of my brain. It’s been done to me, and I am certain I’ve done it to others. I have a couple of rules in my life now. No matter what I am thinking, if it’s after 7 p.m., when I am apt to be tired, it can wait until I’ve slept on it, and no matter what anyone says to me in an argument, I won’t speak words I may have to eat again later. Loved this!

“When people tell you who they are, believe them the first time.” A quote I heard on Oprah years ago that I find invaluable today. When people hurt me, I have choice. First, I’m responsible for speaking my truth. Second, I can a) accept the hurt and do nothing (choose battles wisely) b) I can change my attitude (is the person’s behavior atypical…temporary insanity due to stress, intense emotion, etc) or I can remove myself. Choice depends on context and commitment
